Who Qualifies To Get A Bursary Or University Student Loan From NSFAS?



The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has formally opened the 2025 application process.

Applications at the moment are open and can shut on 15 December 2024.

*** Who qualifies for NSFAS funding

To qualify for NSFAS funding, an applicant will have to meet the subsequent requirements:

• Be a South African citizen or copyright who emanates from a home which has a combined gross house earnings that does not exceed R350 000 for each annum.

• People with disabilities qualify if their combined household cash flow doesn't exceed R600 000 per annum.

• SASSA recipients immediately qualify for funding and wish not post any evidence of earnings.

*** Loan Scheme for the Missing Middle

The NSFAS Loan Scheme for the missing middle is open up to all South African citizens and permanent residents from households with combined R350 000 and R600 000 per annum.

Applicants are reminded to supply the right Identity Document numbers, names, and nsfas status surname, as reflected within their South African ID.

NSFAS only funds individuals who are learning or intend to study in a general public university or TVET college in South Africa.

All students who wish to study in any of the public universities and TVET colleges should apply timeously and not to wait until the last day.

Learners do not have to wait for matric results to apply for NSFAS. They should apply now and avoid delays in the processing of their application.
